Whether installing a freight lift is difficult is a common question today. The installation of a freight lift requires precision and compliance with safety regulations. The ultimate goal is to ensure the lift operates smoothly and meets technical standards. Follow the article below to learn about the detailed installation process for hydraulic freight lifts.
Preparation Before Installing a Freight Lift
Before installation, ensure that the installation area is fully prepared. Additionally, check all components of the freight lift to ensure there are no damages or missing parts.
Create a plan to determine the installation sequence, assign tasks, and set a completion timeline.
Detailed Hydraulic Freight Lift Installation Process
Step 1: Install the Base Frame
Position the base frame on the foundation to mark the points for anchor bolt drilling.

Drill and insert anchor bolts into the marked points.
Tighten the nuts at the anchor bolt positions to secure the base frame to the foundation.

Step 2: Install Machine Components onto the Base Frame
Install the motor, gearbox, and cable drum onto the base frame.
Step 3: Assemble the Lift Frame and Bolt it Down

Erect the lift frame and secure it with bolts to ensure the lift stands vertically.
Step 4: Install the Lift Platform
In this step, you need to fasten bolts into the pre-set positions.
Step 5: Install the Load Cables for the Lift
The cables are pulled from the cable drum, routed over the top pulley, and attached to the Lift Platform.
Step 6: Install Wall Ties
Wall ties serve to keep the entire lift frame fixed and prevent it from shifting. Depending on the installation height, an appropriate number of wall ties must be used.

Step 7: Add Additional Lift Sections
At this stage, installation can be done in two ways:
Method 1: Using a Self-Installing Crane
- Raise the lift to the highest position and use the brake to hold the platform.
- Detatch the load cable from the platform and cable pulley.
- Attach the self-installing crane to the platform.
- Use the self-installing crane to pull the lift section to the installation position at the top.
- Fasten bolts to secure the two lift sections.
- Re-route the load cables.
- Install wall ties for the new lift section.
- Repeat these steps until the required height is reached.
- Complete the final cable routing to finish the installation process.
Method 2: Using a Mobile Crane or Tower Crane
- Lower the lift platform.
- Detach the cable from the platform and the cable pulley at the top of the lift section.
- Use a mobile crane or tower crane to bring the lift section to the installation position.
- Fasten bolts to secure the two lift sections together at the pre-set positions.
- Install wall ties for the newly installed lift section.
- Install subsequent sections until the required height is reached.
- Re-route the cables for the lift.
Step 8: Trial Run of the Freight Lift
After installation, it is necessary to perform a trial run to the highest and lowest points to ensure smooth operation and adjust any errors (if any).

Additionally, you need to check critical components:
- Limit switches.
- Control switches.
- Anti-fall devices.
- Load testing by loading the lift beyond its rated capacity.
Step 9: Quality Inspection of the Freight Lift
The quality inspection of the freight lift is carried out at the site once installation is complete.
The inspection will be performed by a competent authority based on specific criteria.
When the inspection meets the requirements, the project will be granted a permit to use the freight lift.
